Calling all Baseball fans… MLB The Show 22 is coming to the Nintendo Switch on the 5th of April. Now, while baseball actually has a pretty decent following here in South Africa (especially at school and club level) we know it can’t really compete with the likes of football, cricket and rugby. That being said, the announcement that MLB The Show is coming to the Switch is huge news.

For one thing, it’s the only officially licensed Major League Baseball Sim around and on top of that, for more than 20 years it was a franchise exclusive to PlayStation. The game is developed by San Diego Studio a development team that is part of the wider PlayStation Studio group. Then, last year, MLB 21 became a cross-platform title launching on Xbox via Game Pass. That was already big news, and it was super unusual to see the PlayStation studios logo appear across the screen while on your Xbox. And now, things are getting even weirder…not only will it continue to be on the Xbox (and Game Pass) but that same logo will appear on our Nintendo Switches! And, considering that the cover athlete is Japanese superstar player, Shohei Ohtani, now is probably a great time to become available on Japan’s favourite console And given the trailer the Nintendo Switch announcement got – the marketing team definitely knew this!

The quality of sports game ports onto the Switch isn’t great (yes, I’m looking at your FIFA!!) but there is hope around this one thanks to the huge fanfare that the announcement brought and no indication that the Switch would be getting a ‘lite’ version of the game. Instead, cross-save, cross-play and cross-progression will be available on the Switch and the Stadium Creator (an apparent next-gen feature) will be, at least from what we know now, the only omission.
