Super Mario RPG director would love to do a sequel

Have you ever played a Mario RPG? If you have – the odds are you’ve probably tried one of the Mario & Luigi series developed by AlphaDream for the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS or even the Paper Mario which got a sequel on the Switch. However, if you talk to those that have been playing Nintendo games for a little while longer, you’ll probably hear them speaking very fondly of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars a title developed by Square (before they joined Enix) and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1996. In fact, many have been asking for a sequel to that title for years. And it seems the original director, Chihiro Fujioka, is keen too!

In a recent interview, MinnMax’s Ben Hanson spoke to Chihiro Fujioka about his career. They touched on a bunch of different topics but it was especially exciting to hear Mr Fujioka saying he “would love to make another Mario RPG” and would even love it “if his final game is a Mario RPG”. You can check out this specific discussion at this time stamp, but we’d suggest watching the whole video for some great insights about working on the original game, as well as Mr Fujioka’s other work.

Of course, this is no real indication that Nintendo has any plans for Mario RPG sequel, however, we know many out there would love Mr Fujioka to team up with Mr Miyamoto again and if the recent Direct is anything to go by – RPGs are more popular than ever.

C’mon Nintendo let’s make it happen!
