It’s always a great time when Nintendo holds one of its Direct events and this morning was no exception. The February Direct was packed full of exciting news, game trailers and surprises, making it hard to pick out the highlights. But, we’ll do our best to break down the most thrilling announcements and what they mean for Nintendo fans:
1. Exciting upcoming games:
Pikmin 4 Charms with New Trailer: A new trailer was revealed for Pikmin 4, showcasing a cute dog-like creature, and it’s releasing on July 21st, 2023. Get ready to jump into a world of adventure with your new companion!
Tears of the Kingdom: A new trailer was also revealed for showing off new weapons, strange vehicles, and a darker tone. Plus, the Collector’s Edition was also shown. You can look forward to this game launching on May 12th, 2023.
2. GameBoy Library Comes to Switch:
Retro gamers rejoice! If you’re a fan of GameBoy, GameBoy Colour, or GameBoy Advance games, you’re in for a treat! These games will now be available on the Nintendo Switch Online service. All you need is a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access GameBoy titles and a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership to access Advance titles.
3. Metroid Prime Remastered Takes the Stage:
Get ready to blast off on a new adventure! The classic first-person shooter has been remastered and now includes optional full gyro controls. And the best part? It’s available now on the eShop, so you can start playing right away!
4. DLC News:
Splatoon 3 Expands with paid Expansion Pass: Splatoon 3 is getting a paid Expansion Pass with two waves. The first wave will give us a functional version of Inkopolis from Splatoon 1 and will be available in Spring 2023. The second wave, Side Order, will be released by December 31st, 2024 and feature a brand new single-player campaign, taking players to a starkly different world.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe drifts around the corner with Wave 4 announcement: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting new courses in Autumn. This time around though, you can look forward to a brand new course – Yoshi’s Island, and even a new playable character, Birdo.
5. Extra Surprise Announcements:
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe: Kirby’s back and better than ever! The deluxe version will feature a brand new epilogue story and there’s even a free demo to try out now.
Disney Illusion Island: Get ready to co-op your way through a fun platformer! Disney Illusion Island got a new trailer and it’s launching on July 28th, 2023.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp: The classic strategy game is finally coming to the Switch! Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will be launching on April 21st, 2023.
