Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: What we already know…

February 27, 2022

Earlier today, we were treated to a Pokémon Presents showcase (check out the full show breakdown here). Undoubtedly, the show’s biggest moment was the announcement trailer for the new (Gen 9?) mainline Pokémon game entitled Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Before the show, there had been some speculation that we might get a reveal but the fact that we got the trailer plus a launch date of 2022 soon had social media buzzing with surprise.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – Some extra details

During the trailer we got some glimpses of the new games including a brief look at the three new ridiculously cute starters. However, the official Pokémon site was quickly updated with not only more info about this darling trio but also a few more specifics about the game in general. First of all, fans of the Legends: Arceus’ new gameplay will be happy to hear that the new games will feature a big areas to explore. The site confirms this explaining:

Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over! You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them—now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.

The new world’s design, as we all as the names of the the first partner Pokémon, hint that the this time around the game will be featuring Spanish/Portuguese/Mediterranean(?)-looking towns. And I for one can’t wait to explore these new areas!

And now, without further ado – let’s officially meet the new starters: They are called Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly and they are wonderful. Here are their details:
