If you’re a fan of LEGO video games and Star Wars like I am – today was a very good day. After several delays and something like two years since its reveal, today we got a new gameplay trailer (which you can check out below) and the official launch date for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga… 5 April 2022. The game will launch on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and, of course, the Nintendo Switch!
I’ve got to say it’s all looking really good, with that trademark LEGO humour and nods to all the significant (and even a few controversial – ‘Hand Shot First-type’) Star Wars moments. You’ll be happy to learn there are over 300 playable characters, more than 20 planets and variety of new gameplay styles and tweaks to some of the familiar ones. A definite highlight of the trailer is the particular focus on new combat mechanics.

The downside…
Unfortunately, at about the same time as the new trailer dropped, an article by Jack Yarwood (writing for Polygon) also hit the airwaves. It really is worth a read but, in short, it seems the development for The Skywalker Saga was plagued by frustration and issues of crunch, low morale and questionable management. It’s a sad read and I’ve got to admit dampens my enthusiasm a bit for a title I am really looking forward to.
In more positive news… leading up to the Star Wars Sage in April you can look forward to playing Pokémon Legends: Arceus this month, and WRC 10 and Kirby And The Forgotten Land in March.
