There has undoubtedly been a lot of video game-related excitement over the last few days on the AAA front thanks to some big and rather impressive showcases from Xbox/Bethesda and the Summer Game Fest. yet, despite all the fanfare around those presentations – it was actually a small title from the Devolver Digital show that we can’t wait to see more of… Indie Developer All Possible Futures’ The Plucky Squire. The new game is slated to hit the Nintendo Switch (and pretty much everything else) in 2023 and the first look trailer is absolutely gorgeous. Jump between 2D and 3D worlds in this charming action-adventure – solving puzzles, boxing badgers, flying with a jetpack, and enjoying many more delightful and surprising mini-challenges as you become the hero of a living storybook.

This game looks like it will be right down my alley and what has me even more excited is that the All Possible Futures is a development team was founded in 2019 by two industry veterans (@onebitbeyond and @JamesTurner_42) and boasts experience “working on titles such The Swords of Ditto, Fluidity/Hydroventure and Stealth Inc” and James Turner has previously worked as a Pokémon designer and Art Director of Pokémon Sword and Shield. Now, those are some pretty exciting credentials!

The All Possible Futures site is relatively bare at the moment but states that the team’s goal is “making those oh-so-special videogames that turn your head and melt your heart… amazing, outstanding, beautiful original games. The type of games that cause a stir when the world gets to see and play them; the kind of game you’d be proud to have worked on”. And from what we’ve seen so far… I for one am hopeful that they’ll hit the mark and will definitely be keeping my eye on this one.
