Looks like Nintendo is doing it all their own way this month. While so many were predicting or at least hoping for (myself included) a fully-fledged big E3 this month – they’ve decided to opt for two smaller hyper-focused Directs. Last week, we got the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Direct and yesterday Nintendo announced a Direct mini happening later today. According to various Tweets and the official press release, today’s event will “feature roughly 25 minutes of info on upcoming third-party Nintendo Switch games”.
Of course, this does mean we won’t be getting news about Nintendo’s first-party lineup for the rest of the year. However, with confirmations of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet plus the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC (not to mention Splatoon 3 and Advance Wars still slated for this year) perhaps they feel they can afford to delay talking about their ‘own’ titles for a bit longer. And while I’ll definitely be disappointed knowing I won’t get a surprise Metroid/Zelda-type announcement, I’m still excited to see what Nintendo’s third-party lineup is going to look like for the rest of 2022. 25 minutes is enough time to show off a lot and I’m really hoping we finally get a bit more info on Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
For those hoping to tune in later today – the presentation will start at 15:00 local time and you can watch it here.
